THERE, WHERE YOU ARE NOT
Friday March 11, 2022
7 pm
with a live set at 8 pm
There, Where You Are Not investigates where the real is digitized and how the digital transcends back again into the real. This work explores digitality and memes in a post-colonial context.
The title refers to Kamal Boullata's book “There where you are not". The palestinian artist and theorist adapted it from the last line of the poem "The Wanderer" by german poet Georg Philipp Schmidt.
For Boullata, it was a reference to the space of origin where he is not — Palestine. This work will be engaging with an additional layer, the internet.
Firas Shehadeh is a Palestinian artist based in Vienna. His work grapples with the understanding of home and identity in a post-internet age. He is interested in post-colonial effects, technology, and history. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien. Firas‘ album VORTEX was released in February, 2022.
